I think there has been a trend towards atheism since about the time of Darwin, for sure. This is in contrast to most of history, where spiritual views have dominated.

The interesting question is whether the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries were an anomaly that we are already moving away from (which is the position I came from in the article) and that a spiritual view will return, or whether the atheists have it right and the sun really is setting on the spiritual world view for good, as I imagine many people on this list hold?

What's important is that we all keep an open mind, and come to understand each others views a little better, even if we don't change our opinion fundamentally.
