The implementation of school-based management has placed educational leadership firmly at the helm of school improvement. There is little argument that building a successful school depends on the principal and other leaders in the school. This specialization is designed for students interested in expanding their understanding of leadership and management practices in schools. The course balances theoretical perspectives with the practical applications of these perspectives in the context of Hong Kong schools. Specialist Courses
Four to be drawn from the following: u Organisational Dynamics* u Effective Educational Leadership* u Managing Change and Innovations in School* u School, Family and Community Collaboration u Managing Resources and Staff Development u Education and Law * Compulsory EML courses Remarks: Applicants may apply for credit exemption for one specialist course if they have completed one of the following programmes: "Training Programme for Serving Primary School Principals", which is jointly organised by the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Subsidised Primary Schools Council, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, and the Primary School Principals' Training Centre of Education Bureau, Beijing Normal University; “Preparation for Principalship Course for Aspiring Principals”, which is an Education Bureau commissioned programme; or “Blue Skies: A Professional Learning Programme”, a programme for beginning principals run by the Education Bureau.
