In May every year, when flowers are blooming, the Faculty of Education would have an exciting academic meeting ¨C Postgraduate Research Conference ¨C where most faculty staff members and research students contribute themselves by presenting papers, reporting research progress, and participating in workshops. It has been considered as much advantageous to create scientific inquiry atmosphere as well as enrich scholastic communications in the community. And it is also productive with new publications. In 2003, about 30 postgraduate students presented their papers at the venue. Following the completion of the conference, research students were encouraged, by the Faculty in terms of financial support, professional consultancy and clerical manpower, to publish a volume of conference proceedings, entitled Research Studies in Education (Volume I ¨C 2003). I was luckily appointed as one of the three editors. This offered me a very valuable experience than what other colleagues had. The editing task was beneficial to me in many ways. First of all, it gives me an opportunity to open eyes at a wide angle on different research projects with relevancy of education underway in the Faculty, instead of just focusing on my own research. The authors were studying in various fields. Their papers covered a variety of topics. As an editor, the main duty was to catalog those papers into key sections and then an integrated volume. To do so, there was a need to understand all of these topics. Secondly, it gives me a lesson about how to cooperate with others. We are using a civilized method - division of labour ¨C to involve research fellows in different stage of publishing work: referees to review papers related to their research area, editors to edit the relevant of the key sections, proof-reader to proofread the papers, the Associate Dean (Research) to provide professional advice, Office of Research in the Faculty to provide administrative and clerical support, and last by not least, the Dean to provide funding, and many many others were involved during every stages of the editing process. I enjoyed very much the good team spirit! All research fellows, regardless which role they were playing in the work, are considered as a necessary member of the whole group working towards the success of the birth of this first volume proceedings. In short, this is really a good opportunity to nurture young researchers. With contributions of many time and effort to the publication, I sincerely congratulate myself and my research fellows on the success. I extremely found these experiences valuable and beneficial to my PhD study as well as future scholastic career. However, publishing a volume of conference proceedings is not our final venue. We are now working hard on further refining our papers for sending to international journals! (By Yunfeng He)
